It’s never overwhelming- you won’t see minute and mundane details like gear shift ratios in the car customization and purchase process, but it’s not too simple either. Perhaps the biggest compliment that can be made about the gameplay in PGR3 is that it can convert a sim racing-phobe like myself something that the Gran Turismos and Forzas of the world can’t lay claim to. PGR3‘s engine is tough and unforgiving, but at the same time, can yield some pretty impressive results when you know what you’re doing. If racing sims aren’t your bag, though, then the title can be a tough sell. I’m sure that once more people pick up the 360 and PGR3, the riff-raff like myself will be banished from the feed.įor fans of the series, the gameplay in PGR3 is the apex of a series’ evolution. Where PGR3 truly shines is the seamless integration between the online and offline modes. The gameplay hasn’t seen too much evolution since PGR2, as few new moves have been added, and the racing modes and match modifiers aren’t exactly setting the world afire. Fail to reach the goal you predicted, and you get nothing. In order to collect a sizable amount of Kudos, you’ve got to pull off some pretty risky maneuvers- try to do too much, and you’re more likely to make a mistake or simply be passed by an opponent focusing more on the race than tricks. PGR 3 creates a fine balance between the two currencies. As you earn more Kudos, your skill level increases and more cars are available to purchase. You gain experience (known as “Kudos” in PGR3) for pulling off impressive moves like powerslides, riding on two wheels and drifting behind opponents ahead. Credits are the more traditional form of currency you earn it by winning races and use it to purchase new cars. There are two currencies to be collected in every mode in PGR 3– Credits and Kudos.
Like the previous two entries in the series, Project Gotham Racing 3 emphasizes style above almost all else it’s not just if you win, it’s how you win. Will PGR3 speed Bizarre Creations ahead to the front of the pack, or does the game stall at the starting line? Their effort is spearheaded by their fourth racing game in under five years- the 360 launch title, Project Gotham Razing 3. With the major changes in high-definition visuals and online gaming brought about by the Xbox 360, Bizarre Creations finally has the chance to seize the racing crown from the sagging Gran Turismo franchise. With Project Gotham Racing 2, Bizzare utilized the then-burgeoning Xbox Live service to provide the exemplary online racing experience for the original Xbox. In their first Xbox title, Project Gotham Racing, the racing system was refined and the graphics massively improved for the new console. Beginning with Metropolis Street Racer for the Sega Dreamcast, Bizarre has finely tuned their racing engine for a half-decade. Bizarre Creations, the UK-based Microsoft second party behind Project Gotham Racing 3 has essentially been producing the same game for the past five years.
